That is a lot of detail. Nice job.

Oh! A buzatron design!
sweet.

@j5: Thanks! Glad you like it :)

Too bad a parsec is a measure of distance, not time.

Don't mean to ruin the fun, but how do I see the detail? The images are a little small on the page, and can't seem to click to expand either :(

@bigshtank: In researching this piece, I fully realize what your saying. The "Kessel Run" was originally an 18 Parsec course, but Han Solo said he did it in 12 Parsecs (successfully navigating close to a cluster of black holes known as "the maw"). This design does not give any indication to the time/speed argument though.

@buzatron: You've fallen into one of the classic nerd blunders, the most famous of which is whether Kirk or Picard is the better captain, but only slightly less well known is the parsec being a unit of distance, not of time argument.

AHAHAHAHAHAH! AHAHAHAHA! AHAH-urk...

@sinner3k: Ah yes, also never get involved in a land war in Asia and never go in against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line!

How this distance measurement is justified in the books:
Kessel is a spice mining planet situated in a field of black holes. The safest route is one that maps through the path that is farthest distant from each. the shortest route is the more direct route but closer to each black hole. The faster your ship the closer you can get to the event horizon and still escape, therefore the boast of less than 12 parsecs is a boast of speed in a roundabout way.
I think this is stretching plausability, but it's how they explain it.

The book and screen play clearly indicate that Solo was full of sh** and everyone knew it.
That other stuff was made up as backfill.

@aaronabrown: as sinner3k stated, I do believe I opened a proverbial can of worms here. For my next trick, Gredo shot first. Lets sit back and watch deals.woot burn now ;)

@buzatron: Oh, sweet, merciful Roddenberry, what have I done?
