Okay... compare/contrast with Vibrams, anyone?

vote-for16vote-against

I have a pair of Vibrams and I like these better. When I put my Vibrams on my pinky-toe and the one next to it ALWAYS try to fit into the same hole. I find that the Fila's are easier to get on and I don't feel like I am going to break my toes all the time.

Just my .02 take it for what its worth...

vote-for5vote-against

I can't speak for skele-toes, but I'm a big supporter of toe shoes in general. I've had a pair of Vibram Treksports for over a year and just ran a half marathon in them. For this price, if you've been interested in toe shoes then you have little to lose in giving these a try.

vote-for7vote-against

@brutherford: I can verify that Vibrams have this downside, where you gotta do some wiggling to actually seat your toes in the shoes. I haven't tried the Filas.

vote-for4vote-against

AHHHH woot! why do you do this to me? I soooo want to give these a try and at this price it's way tooooo tempting. I am hesitant because my feet are super-sensitive and I'm not sure about shoving my toes into those sleeves!

vote-for5vote-against

@robkr: Those seem to be a different model.

I have Vibram Treksports as well, but I tried these on in the store and they felt pretty good. I don't think they're really designed for running though, be careful.

vote-for24vote-against

Just a heads up for MY experience, these are nothing like vibrams and felt horrible on my feet. very cheap feeling. just not the same.

BUT, each to their own. definitely go to a store and give these a try before you spend the money on them.

vote-for8vote-against

Anyone have advise on sizing? should someone that fits 10-10.5 go for a size 11 or 10?

vote-for4vote-against

just bought 3 random shirts about 2 hours ago. used my jumbowoot coupon, otherwise i would probably be all over these

vote-for22vote-against

Vibrams is actually suing fila for infringement. ON top of that vibram are of superier quality, and REI.com and leftlanesports have a tendency to put them on sale for about 45 a pair, i know its 20 bux higher than these, but i have four pairs of the vibrams (treks, and sprints both) and would have to say they are FAR superior to these. the over all build quality is better and its a lightweight fabric around which helps the foot breathe better. yes sometimes they are a pain to get on. but quite honestly i would go with multiple different minimalist shoes before buying these. don't waste your money.

vote-for5vote-against

I have been using these for about a month at the gym. Work good for my needs. Never had a set of vibrams. I still have a little trouble getting the various toes in the right slot. Maybe its me.

vote-for4vote-against

My 2nd toe is a bit longer than my big toe. Can it be stretched?

vote-for5vote-against

@rrussell: Yes, it's a different model, but it seems like it's the only review out there outside of Amazon.

I've been wanting a pair for casual wear around the house, yard, lake, etc but didn't want to pay the premium for Vibrams, so I'm in for a pair.

Besides, I like the look of these better. They look more like traditional shoes, so people won't be staring at your weird looking toe shoes.

vote-for21vote-against

@bsmith1: You can probably stretch your big toe using some kind of chain and wench mechanism, but it likely won't feel good.

vote-for3vote-against

In for 2 pairs (one for me and one for the hubby). Thanks for the "up"!!!

vote-for6vote-against

Also I tried these on at a local Kohls and found them quite uncomfortable.

vote-for8vote-against

@zollars23: People will still stare at your weird toe shoes. ಠ_ಠ

vote-for5vote-against

Maybe this is obvious to everyone but me, but the bottom of the page shows "In the box: Fila Skela-Toes Water Shoes".

So these are just water shoes for the beach and waterparks?

vote-for4vote-against

@rrussell: Umm... accurate comparison would be a ten speed Huffy to a Bugatti Veyron.

@robkr: A fellow birthdayshoes.com reader. I figured there had to be a few of us floating around.

Have many, many pairs of Vibrams. You might say I love them. Bought all but the 1st pair on sale. Did they cost more than this pair? Yes. Worth it? To me they are, but I don't have these so I can't compare.

Will say this - if you find it difficult to put on Vibram's, you'll have the SAME problem w/these. They just combine 2 toes into 1 slot. Also, would like to point out that these do not specify gender. Might be okay, sizing wise. Not sure. (Vibram styles VARY in the size you buy - learned that the hard way.) Was briefly tempted; decided not to buy.

And if you think you won't be noticed when wearing these - ummmm - please rethink. They ARE toed shoes. And they do say FILA in big letters. IMO, they make a bigger attention grabbing statement than Vibrams.

vote-for3vote-against

@imbkelley: I think that's a misunderstanding of the product by Woot. Other websites say they are athletic shoes.

vote-for0vote-against

@lotsofgoats: These look less weird than vibrams. It was a selling point.

Also, I'm not going to wear these to work or the store or anything like some weirdos do.

vote-for6vote-against

Just want to chime in. I've tried both Vibrams and Skeletoes. I went with Skeletoes. Roomier toe enclosures, easier to get on. Will go ahead and say that I have the Voltage and Amp shoes for off-road running. Much gripper bottom, and more adjustment over the top of the foot.

I do NOT own these Trifits, and probably will not buy them due to lack of tread. The hatching on the bottom of the Voltage shoe lets you grip surface without feeling like you're wearing shoes at all. Despite having some cushioning it's still incredibly flexible. On the same trail, I ran right over some rocks while my buddy destroyed his feet in his Vibrams.

So I highly suggest the Amp/Voltage series, but can't attest to the usefulness of these. Might be nice for pure road running, where you don't need extra grip?

PS> Buy Injinji socks. Shoes will stink after a few runs without them. Thank god they're machine washable!

I normally wear a size 12 in just about everything. I just got back from Dick's Sporting Goods and tried on two pairs of 12's and two pair's of 13's - I had to go with the 13's because of toes. My toes felt way to cramped in the 12's, but I do have longish toes (according to the spouse). Aside from the toes the 12's felt just a bit cramped in the heel. I'm worried that the 13s may loosen up WAY too much, but the velcro straps still had a good bit of length left, so I'll be able to tweak them over time.

So, for me, they were sized a bit small.

vote-for3vote-against

These are the original Skeletoes (1.0), I believe, and I just think this style looks ugly. I bought one of the newer styles from Fila (Turbo), and they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. I got my wife a pair for Mother's Day, and she loves them as well.

Regarding the sizing, I'm a 13.5, and I bought 14. In bare feet, they're loose, but I bought some cheapy toe socks on eBay for $2.50, and they fit great along with the socks. My wife is 8.5 and that's the size I bought her, and she said they fit great.

vote-for3vote-against

@quackydork: Agree, seems like men' sizes only. Too bad, my feet are too small for even the smallest of these. I have tried Vibrams, and like other posters on here, my smallest and next-smallest toes always stick together and feel uncomfortable when they are apart, let alone the amount of time it takes to shove them into the shoes....

vote-for1vote-against

I ordered a pair of vibrams and sent them back after trying them on and not fitting my little toe correctly. They really do feel cheap also... The Filas I liked a lot better when I tried them on at a kohls due to the 4 toe design.

But all in all...lets be real guys...these shoes look completely freaking retarded... you are going to get the same attention that the idiot with a bar in their nose.

All the forums that, "you have to get use to running with them." take it easy at first! And the US military has outlawed their use. So do you think they are the best footware out there?? I'd say no.

vote-for2vote-against

@brutherford: What if these don't fit? Can I return them to woot (moofi)?

vote-for2vote-against

You can all keep your toe shoes. In my opinion the Cadillacs of barefoot running are (excluding actually running barefoot) vivobarefoot shoes. I trained for and ran a half ironman in a pair of Aquas and have Aquas, Neos and Neo trails now. vivobarefoot.com

When are shoe manufacturer's going to recognize that some of us were born with the aesthetically ideal toes of Classical Greek sculpture? It's like they expect us to wear sandals or something.

vote-for1vote-against

@zwaldo: The US Military made it illegal to wear these? Is it a shoot on sight order or do you at least get a warning shot as I live right next to a military installation and would like to return back from my job alive!

vote-for1vote-against

Can we go swimming in these?

vote-for2vote-against

Looks like Amazon will sell these as a lightning deal in 8 hours. (8pm Central time)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/ref=cs_top_nav_gb27
If it's cheaper there, I will haz a sad, woot. Already ordered from moofi yesterday.

vote-for2vote-against

Nice find bsmith1! Set my timer to check back on that later tonight. Thanks for the heads up!

vote-for2vote-against

I ordered these Tuesday, they came in Thursday. I got a size 12, could have used an 11.5, these are a little roomy, but they'll do for what I want them for. I didn't want to go 11, I bet that would have been too tight.

vote-for1vote-against

Why do you taunt those of us with syndactyly????? (Webbed toes)I got toe socks as a child from distant relative, very uncomfortable.

vote-for1vote-against

Arrived today, I usually take a 10.5 so I ordered an 11, they're about a full size too big. Since I took a vacation day and waited at home (I was planning on going on a trip all week and would have seen them failed to deliver and be returned in my absence otherwise), it's not worked out too well...
